There’s something special about watching young people discover just how much they’re capable of — and our recent TV & Film workshops for ages 7–14 were a perfect example of that.
Over the course of our latest April holiday workshop, the group explored the full end-to-end process of creating their own videos, from initial storyboarding right through to the final edit. Using green screen technology, they were able to bring imaginative scenes to life, experimenting with “on-screen magic” that turned simple concepts into exciting reels.
What made this workshop particularly great was the way the children took ownership of every stage — it was a true behind-the-scenes experience too. One group would step into the spotlight as actors, developing characters and telling stories, while the other group took control behind the camera as directors, camera operators, and vision mixers. Then, they swapped roles, giving everyone the chance to experience both sides of the production process. This approach not only built practical skills but also encouraged teamwork, communication, and creative problem-solving. The children quickly realised how each role contributes to the final result — and how important collaboration is in bringing an idea to life.
The outcomes were genuinely impressive. Each video reflected the group’s creativity, humour, and growing confidence, and perhaps most importantly, every video was created entirely by the children themselves. From framing shots to calling “action,” they made it happen!
Alongside the technical learning, there was plenty of smiles, experimentation, and support. It was a great group to work with — enthusiastic, engaged, and willing to try new things.
Workshops like these are about more than just film-making. They’re about giving young people the tools to express themselves, the confidence to share their ideas, and the experience of working together in a real studio set up towards something they can be proud of.
And judging by the brilliant videos they produced, the future of filmmaking is in very good hands! 🎬✨Congrats kids!
